Vale John Strong

Men of League Foundation member number: 1,152

One of the Tweed District’s most admired and respected rugby league Identities, John Strong, passed away on 21 December 2017.

John joined the Foundation in 2004 and in 2009, was made the President of the Men of League Foundation Tweed District Committee and remained in this position until he passed away. John was a much-loved member of the Men of League Foundation community.

John was born in Sydney and raised on the Northern Beaches. He played over 100 games for Manly in the 1960 and 70s. A keen lifesaver and beach sprinter of some note, John worked as a Police Prosecutor in the Sydney Magistrates court.

In the 1970s, John and his wife moved to the Tweed Heads area. He was President of the Bilambil rugby league for over 20 years and was a member of the Men of League Foundation.

John was very well respected on the Tweed District Committee where he worked tirelessly to help raise much-needed funds and ensuring that the rugby league community of his area was always well looked after. He always mentored any new members of the committee to ensure that they understood what the Foundation was all about.

The Tweed district Men of League Committee will never be the same without John. His legacy will live on.
