Vale Brian David Humphries

11 August 1938 – 1 January 2013

Brian David Humphries, better known as ‘Wacka’, was born in Tamworth and went to school at the Christian Brothers College. At an early age Wacka showed his athletic prowess by breaking the Under 12’s school record for the hop, step and jump. Wacka represented his school on many occasions in Rugby League and went on to join the West Tamworth Juniors Under 18’s at 16.

At 18, he was selected to play in Wests first grade and it was written in the local paper that he could develop into a smart halfback, that turned out to be the understatement of the year. At 19, he played for Group 4, Northern Division Country and against the Great Britain touring side, which included the great Alex Murphy, Dick Huddart and Vince Karalius.
Wacka will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Gone but not forgotten.
