Meet Our New Queensland State Manager – Andrew Blucher

Developing a strategic plan and implementing innovative fundraising methods are just some of the goals for newly appointed Men of League Foundation Queensland State Manager, Andrew Blucher.

Andrew’s appointment comes following the departure of David Shillington in late 2018, with Men of League Foundation Board Member Darryl Van De Velde holding the position in an interim capacity whilst a replacement was found.

Andrew joins the Foundation with a strong sporting background, having spent time at Netball Queensland and the Queensland Firebirds as General Manager of Commercial & Sponsorship, as well as General Manager of the Brisbane Heat.

A sport lover of all kinds, Andrew is excited about the opportunity to grow with rugby league’s charity of choice.

“My wife and some of my mates have been to Men of League Foundation events and everyone I speak to says great things about the Foundation; the events they run and the work they do.

“There’s a great chance to build plans and strategies that make us more professional, allowing us to generate more funds and make a bigger difference in the rugby league community,” Andrew said.

Andrew played an integral role in the launch of the Heat in the Big Bash League, managing a team of 10 that oversaw sponsorship, licensing, marketing, events and match day operations. It will be knowledge gained from experiences such as these that he will be looking to capitalise on in his position as Queensland State Manager.

“I’ll be aiming to broaden our network and do everything we can to support our volunteers and sponsors. Ultimately, it’s all building great relationships with people, harnessing greater community support and doing more to help people in need.”

Andrew follows all Queensland based rugby league teams with great interest, however he favours one more than the others.

“That would be the Brisbane Broncos, but I have been a fan dating back to the early 1970s where I was an avid Wests Panthers fan in the BRL. I’ve followed the game closely ever since,” Andrew concluded.

Away from the office, Andrew enjoys being active outdoors running, swimming, riding or playing golf.
