The Ross Dog bids farewell this Sunday, at least for the summer.
Nathan Ross began the season as a largely unheralded player whose backstory was essentially a piece of advice from former Newcastle coach Wayne Bennett to give it all away, he was never going to make it as an NRL player.
Ross took the advice for a short while, finding work in the mines, before former coach Rick Stone lured him back.
Ross found another gear this year, emerging as the greatest trier in a team full of triers. In the process, he emerged as a cult figure within the game.
His energy and unusual athleticism make him unstoppable and unmissable.
Come Sunday Ross runs out against Cronulla aware a new wave of reinforcements will arrive for next season, shoring up the Knights’ depth.
It won’t stop him.
