Vale John ‘Morto’ Morton

John Morton sadly passed away peacefully on Monday the 16th of June 2014, after a very long and courageous battle with unrelenting medical problems.

‘Morto’, as he was well known to his many friends and associates, was a well respected Sporting Journalist and held the position of Sporting Editor at the now defunct Brisbane Telegraph Newspaper, for no less than 21 years.

A proud Member of the Aspley Hornets, in his latter years, ‘Morto’ was an avid follower of all sports and was, without doubt, a passionate Queenslander who revelled in the euphoria which followed that very special occasion when Queensland won the elusive Sheffield Shield for the first time, at the Gabba, in 1995.

John Morton was an enthusiastic and a long serving member of many sporting and social clubs, including the Queensland Cricketers’ Club, the Wanderers and the Lord’s Taverners.

He was a Life Member of both the Wanderers (Qld) Club Inc. and The Lord’s Taverners (Australia) Qld Incorporated – the highest Honour, for outstanding service, which any club can bestow on one of its loyal members.
