Supporting Anne Templeton

Anne’s journey with rugby league began when she met her partner Gary.

In 2017, Gary began to feel a sharp pain in his ankle that he thought he’d injured playing bowls. Continued agony saw him take a trip to the doctor’s, where following examinations it was determined he was suffering from secondary bone cancer and also stage four lung cancer.

Anne and Gary were devastated but determined to make the most of their time together. Unfortunately, their time was cut terribly shorter than they had both hoped, as Gary’s health declined quickly and he passed away just three months after his diagnosis.

The Men of League Foundation organised a special visit from former legend Wally Fullerton-Smith for Anne and were privileged to support her through this exceptionally tough emotional and financial time.
