One of these days Trent Merrin will walk away from rugby league and straight in to a role in stand-up. Comedy comes easily for Merrin.

Until then, though, Merrin has plenty to offer the NRL.

It continues Sunday when Merrin comes off the bench for the Panthers in a game most consider a foregone conclusion which many already know, is the most dangerous kind.

While Matt Moylan is missing, Merrin will be thrust into it early and will have creative licence to roam and wreak havoc with the Dragons’ defence.

The Panthers play St George Illawarra at Pepper Stadium knowing a win Sunday and another next week gives them an outside chance at a top four spot.

The unlikely Panthers have recovered from a 2-7 beginning to the season and to have now won seven on the trot and come good on their pre-season promise.

And that’s no joke.
