A pair of rugby league legends

Men of League Foundation Brisbane Committee member and former Australian rugby league legend Wally Fullerton-Smith recently visited former Norths and Queensland legend Fonda Metassa.

Fonda, also known in rugby league circles as the ‘Golden Greek’, was famous for the time he was being taken off the ground after been knocked out in a game at Lang Park. Upon regaining conciseness, his brother John informed him what was happening. He kicked down the doors of the ambulance and ran back onto the field. The crowd erupted but unfortunately he had already been replaced!

Fonda now lives quietly in a nursing home at Sandgate and he really enjoyed his visit from Wally discussing current rugby league and some classic memories together.
