Wet Weather Football

Wet Weather Football

Who would have thought that in Round 3 we would be discussing wet weather football?

Coaches would have been preparing all summer for fast and up tempo games in good conditions early in the season, but as we saw over the weekend, tactics had to be changed dramatically in some matches.

For me four things stand out that is crucial to execute if it is wet:

·         ball control and how you attack with caution
·         tightening of your defensive line – make the opposition go around you
·         kick chase game – you will dominate field position this way
·         no cheap penalties in defense

When you do this well, you put yourself in a good position to win.

That’s what the Dragons and Manly did well over the weekend. And after their performances the week the coaches, players and fans will be happy that they adapted to some terrible conditions.
