A wellbeing visit for a well respected man, Brian Woods

The Foundation’s Newcastle and Hunter Committee Wellbeing Officers David Turrell, Vince Murphy and Garry Drummond recently called in on Brian ‘Pecka’ Woods while he was recuperating at home after a shoulder replacement. An avid St George Illawarra Dragons fan, ‘Pecka’ was recovering well and in good spirits.

Brian has had a wide and varied association with rugby league over the years. As a player, he played for the Swansea Swans as well as the Warren Bulldogs in the Group 15 and 14 CRL competition, before pulling on a guernsey for the South Perth Lions in the Western Australian Rugby League competition.

He coached in the Lower Hunter with the Swans and  Bulldogs, before ticking the acclaimed box of ‘Premiership Winning Coach’, claiming a title with the Valentine Red Devils.

As well as playing & coaching, Brian was also a committee member for South Perth during his time in Western Australia, as well as holding an administrative role for the Maitland Pickers during the “Back in Black” reformation campaign in 2009 and the back to back premierships in 2010 & 2011.

Brian was a Newcastle and Hunter rugby league administrator, an official of the Newcastle Rugby League and sat on both the Junior and Senior judiciary panels of the NRL. To add to the already impressive CV, he also enjoyed spending time as a Vice-President of the Valentine Junior Rugby League.

Brian was well and truly on the comeback trail and very appreciative of the visit from the Men of League Foundation. We wish him all the best with his recovery!
