Wayne (Pud) Matthews – Griffith

Long time player, supporter and official of the Griffith Waratahs, Wayne (Pud) Matthews was visited on Wednesday 29th April, 2015 at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown by Sydney Metro Welfare Officers, Warren Thompson and Alan Webb.

Wayne has been in hospital for a couple of weeks and we were notified by former Griffith resident Peter Keenan, now a member of Sydney Metro branch.

Contact was made with Wayne last week but he was not well enough to receive visitors, subsequently he had surgery and is now well on the way to recovery.

At the time of the visit Marilyn (Wayne’s wife) was also in attendance.  She is staying in Sydney while Wayne is in hospital.
Wayne has a condition known as Ulcerative Colitis, and has had to have two surgeries during his stay in hospital.  It is hoped that he will be discharged in a few days.

Wayne informed us that he has been a member of the Men of League for many years. Wayne was presented with a Men of League Polo shirt and Cap. On receiving these items he commented that he would be wearing them to his first game on his return home to Griffith.

He was also given the latest copy of the MOL Magazine  and stated that he reads it from back to front.

We wish Wayne a speedy recovery.

Alan Webb
