On May 1 2014, Men of League Welfare Officers John Peard, Warren Thompson and Alan Webb visited Wayne Bateup at St. Vincents Public Hospital Darlinghurst. Wayne had been in Sutherland Hospital for a week and half before being transferred to St. Vincents Hospital where he spent three and a half weeks. Although seriously ill, Wayne was still able to communicate with John about his beloved Roosters.  He gave John a wrist band in Roosters colours which one of his grandchildren had made for him. Wayne had a heart condition (Cardiomyopathy) and unfortunately passed away later that night. He was comforted by his wife Lesley and sons Josh, Aiden and Aaron along with other family members. The Men of league Foundation conveys its deepest sympathy to Lesley and the family.
