Vale Sel Belsham

Former New Zealand International half-back Sel Belsham  (No.367) passed away on the Gold Coast on Friday 11th March 2016, aged 85. Sel had been in poor health and suffering from dementia over the past few years.

Nicknamed Selly, he proudly wore the Kiwi stripe in 10 tests between 1953 and 1957, and also represented New Zealand in the 1957 Rugby League World Cup, as well as being selected in the rest of the world side which played Australia.

He toured Great Britain in 1955/56 and Australia in 1956. He was also a first class cricketer for Auckland, and was considered to be a certainly for the Black Caps tour to South Africa, before being struck down with hepatitis.

The Men of League Foundation and the rugby league community would like to express their sincere condolences to Sel’s wife Marge and his family.

Rest in Peace Sel.
