WA Rugby League

The Western Australian Rugby League would like to extend their condolences to the family of Preston Learmonth, who passed away last week aged 70.

Preston made an extensive and valued contribution to rugby league in WA. He was a founding member of the Bunbury-based South West Warriors and instrumental to their inclusion into the WARL competition, and was a committee member until his passing.

Preston played for the South Perth Lions and North Beach Sea Eagles in the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. He was a WA State representative and also had the honour of captaining the side during his rugby league career.

The hard-hitting front row forward is described as a ‘really nice bloke’, and a great supporter of rugby league in WA, from grassroots to NRL. Preston was a member of the West Coast Pirates and previously the WA Reds.

Preston’s funeral will be held this Saturday 16th March at 11am at William Barrett & Sons, 9 Spencer St, Bunbury.
