Vale – Pat O’Shea

Vale – Pat O’Shea

It is with great sadness that we farewell the wonderful life of Pat O’Shea, arguably one of the Darling Down’s most talented commentators and radio personalities.

QLD State Manager for the Men of League Foundation Frank Barrett said, “If you grew up on the Darling Downs and liked your sport, you knew Pat O’Shea, it’s as simple as that.

“Growing up in Warwick, Pat was heard everywhere. If it wasn’t on radio 4WK, it was WIN TV or one of the many functions he generously donated his time and significant talent towards.

“The Barrett household woke up to Pat every day, especially on Saturday mornings, when dad must have his tips from Percy the Punters pal, one of Pat’s many alias”.

“Pat was also highly regarded and respected on a larger state and national scale, especially when it came to horse racing.

“His opinion and reputation was highly regarded by people who rubbed shoulders with the best in the business, right down to the average punter at Clifford Park races.

“People like Pat O’Shea helped people dare to dream, he certainly encouraged me to pursue some opportunities in media commentary, let alone some of the biggest names in sport from the region,” Frank concluded.

Men of League Southern Division Committee President, Andrew O’Brien said “Pat was an avid Men of League member and supporter, he will be sorely missed within the foundation. He was a wonderful supporter and was absolutely thrilled when the Foundation arrived in the area.

“A true gentlemen, Pat had great pleasure in emceeing many of our functions, but in particular his greatest honour was to emcee our black tie tribute dinner for John MacDonald. Our sincere condolences to Cecil, James, Karen, Kate and their families”.

Your voice may be gone Pat, but your legacy and the moments it called will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Pat.
