The Men of League Foundation extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and team mates of Mark Shulman.

Best known for his courage and tenacity despite his smaller size, Mark was literally the masters apprentice, serving under the great half back Billy Smith at St George when he debuted in 1971. Mark would go on to play half back in the 1977 Grand Final win over Parramatta and became club captain in 1978. “He was five foot nothing and 60 pounds but he was brave,” Dragons legend Craig Young told Wide World of Sports.

“He would put his body at risk to stop guys twice his size and he wasn’t scared – the boys loved him.”

Shulman was a local Dragons junior who later coached Cronulla in the lower grades after retiring in 1978 due to injuries.
Mark played 58 matches between 1971 and 1978 for the Dragons, scoring 24 points.

May he rest in peace.
