Rugby League lost a good man when Kevin Ashley passed away, aged 71.
The Men of League offer their deepest sympathies to Kevin’s wife Barbara, his children Nathan and Sarah, along with son-in-law Brett, plus his two much loved grandchildren, Zoe and William.
He grew up in the Paddington area and played with the Avalon club in the Eastern Suburbs junior League.
A good all-round sportsman, Kevin also played some junior Aussie Rules for the East Sydney club and top grade water polo with the Bronte club. He entered grade football with the Roosters in 1963 and in his seven seasons, finished with 105 first grade games and 165 points from five tries, 49 goals and 26 field goals. On 3 September 1967, Kevin represented City Firsts against Country. City were captain/coached by Bob Fulton and Kevin’s second row partner was triple international, Dick Thornett. Kevin also played with Easts in the 1967 and 1968 semi finals.
Kevin’s family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at All Saints Church, Hunters Hill on Thursday January 31, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Concord Cancer Centre would be appreciated.
A celebration of Kevin’s life will also be held at the Western Star Hotel, Dubbo on Saturday, 2 February from 11am.
