Vale Ken Boothroyd

Born 25 April 1931. Passed away 10 July 2017.

James Kenneth Boothroyd passed away on Monday 10 July, aged 86. Known as Ken in rugby league circles, he migrated to Australia in 1966 from Manchester with his wife Patricia. A physical education teacher, Ken taught at Kogarah Marist Brothers for more than 25 years from 1969.

Soon after settling in Australia, Ken began working as a St. George trainer and did this job for more than 15 years, including the Premiership teams of 1977 and 1979. Over the years, Ken also worked with the Illawarra Steelers, the Illawarra Juniors and the Referees.

Ken and his wife moved to Kiama 17 years ago to enjoy their retirement.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Karen and Karl and grandchildren Alarna, Brad, Kirsty, Toby and Hollie.

Ken’s funeral will be held Friday, 12 July, at the Stan Crapp Funeral Home, corner of Manning and Farmer Streets, Kiama at 2pm. Following the service, people are invited to Kiama Leagues Club.
