Vale – Keith William ‘Ringo’ Phillips

Vale – Keith William ‘Ringo’Phillips
30/4/1934 – 13/11/2015

Ringo as he was known to his mates, was a proud Men of League Member, sadly passed away on the 13 November 2015 at a Nursing Home in Kanwal (Wyong) after suffering a traumatic seizure only weeks before. He was a true product of the South Sydney District having grown up in Redfern Sydney and lived to play rugby league from a child to adulthood. He developed into a clever and respected five-eight and only ever played with the strong Chelsea United Junior Rugby League Football Club teams through all junior grades in the South Sydney Junior Rugby League competitions.

Along with his two brothers, Ray and Harry (deceased), they played together throughout the grades and formed a highly effective combination in many Chelsea United Club premiership winning teams. Keith was good enough to be selected in the 1952 South Sydney President Cup representative team, playing in the Senior B Grade Premiership team in 1954 and the A Grade Premiership team in 1958 and 1959. After his playing days were over he remained actively involved in his Chelsea United Club as a coach, committee member and was subsequently awarded Life Membership of the Club.

His son Ian followed in his dad’s footsteps by playing and coaching over many years with the Chelsea United Club and in recent years both never missed a Club Annual Reunion. They have been strong supporters of the Chelsea Old Mates group, who look after the welfare of Club members and organise social gatherings. Needless to say the Phillips family from the very beginning have remained staunch South Sydney Rabbitoh’s supporters.

In recent years, Keith moved out of Sydney to the Wyong area where he quickly gained a good reputation and was respected by all as he was in the South Sydney district. He was truly a legend in his own lifetime.

Keith will be dearly missed by his partner Yvonne, son Ian and wife Karen, daughter Karen and husband Rob, grandchildren Bowie, Kristen, Clint, Kasey, Brendon, Sean, Matthew and great grandchildren Mila and Tyler plus the countless number of friends he made during his wonderful lifetime.

A crematorium funeral service will be held at Mackay Family Funerals, 249 Pacific Highway, Ourimbah at 1pm on Tuesday 17 November 2015.

May he rest in peace.
