VALE Ike Quinn 1929 – 2015

Vale Ike Quinn (1929 – 2015)

Ike Quinn’s life was formally celebrated at Eastern Suburbs Crematorium on Tuesday 13th January with daughter Tracey and son Steve along with family, friends and former workmates and then informally celebrated at his wake at Alexandria Erskineville Bowling Club.

It was definitely a fitting tribute to a man who not only served his country with 19 years in the navy but also continued on giving during his life especially in our case with his beloved Chelsea football club…

As Ray Teuma said at the service Ike served as club president for over 30 years and was heavily involved as a social secretary and organiser with the club after his playing days were over… He was also a Life Member of both Chelsea and South Sydney Juniors. He also fitted in a boxing career somewhere as a super featherweight / lightweight in there as well which Tracey alluded to and acknowledged Wally Carr in the Chapel.

Tracey was presented with an A3 size laminated array of photos of Ike as a small token of appreciation on behalf of Chelsea Old Mates whilst we were at Erko…

A large number of Chelsea Old Mates were on hand including Bill Harvey, Sam, Paul and Frank Votano, Ian and Karen Phillips, Tommy and Diane Ford, Neville Woods, Peter Hopcroft, Fred Hailwood, Terry Hoskins, Henry Morris, Stan Hardy and myself to make Ike’s sendoff a memorable one. Sorry if I left anyone out…
