Former Sydney University Rugby League coach Doug Passlow passed away last week.

A Camperdown Dragons junior, Passlow was graded with Newtown and played eight first grade matches in 1953. He scored two tries for the Blue Bags in their 19-10 loss to Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

He coached the Sydney University C Grade team when University fielded teams in the Newtown District Junior Rugby League competitions and the C Grade junior team in 1968 and 1969.

In 1970 he coached the Sydney University Blues (the other team was the Golds) in the inaugural year of the NSWRL University Cup competition. This competition was a forerunner of the modern day NSWRL Tertiary Rugby League.

In 1971 he coached the Sydney University reserve grade team in the NSWRL Second Division competition, which was a forerunner of the present-day NSWRL Ron Massey Cup.

Doug was a good coach, a great fellow and most of all a thoroughly decent man.
