Vale Clem Rankin

On March 30 2014, Clem Rankin lost his battle with leukaemia at the age of 75 with his wife Patricia and son Robert by his side.

During his battle Clem was visited by Warren Thompson and Alan Webb, Men of League Welfare Officers of the Sydney Metro branch, who presented him with a cap and Men of League jumper which he loved.

Clem, a retired Police Inspector joined the New South Wales Police Force in 1960 and after completing his initial 12 months in Sydney, he transferred back to the north coast where he served for a further 36 years.

As a young constable, he was posted to Grafton where in 1963 he eventually became the local rugby league club’s inaugural captain-coach.
The Grafton Ghosts are set to hold a ‘Clem Rankin Memorial Shield’ in May.The Ghosts will pay tribute to their inaugural boss at the Frank McGuren Field before the first grade match, with a minute’s silence and a reflection of Rankin’s career at the club.

Clem was a passionate rugby league player and coach and will always be remembered as a family man and great friend.
