Vale – Brian ‘ Mick’ Frankland

Born 16 March 1938, Passed Away 24 December 2018.

Born and raised in the heart of the St George region, Brian ‘Mick’ Frankland was a man who loved the game of rugby league.

Growing up in Sans Souci and heading to school at Kogarah High, Mick first pulled on a rugby league guernsey at the age of 15 where he represented Ramsgate United for numerous seasons. Unfortunately, a badly broken ankle saw an end to his on-field career as a player.

Very keen to stay involved in rugby league, Mick acquired his refereeing ticket in 1967 and began officiating matches in the local competitions, where he was well respected by players and coaches alike.

Upon the birth of his sons Steve and Craig, Mick turned his attention to coaching, which he did with some success. Mick was involved with the Brighton Seagulls, where he won a premiership, as well as Bexley Kingsgrove and Allawah over a period of 20 years. He then progressed onto the St George Dragons SG Ball and Jersey Flegg sides.

Mick was also the Vice-President of the St George Junior Rugby League, giving back to the game and region that had given him so much.

In addition to his two sons, Mick is also survived by his daughter Lee.
