Vale – Bill “Billy” Lewis

The Men of League was saddened to hear that Bill “Billy” Lewis passed away on 11 September at the age of 79 after a long battle with dementia. 
 
Bill, a life member of the famous junior league club Bondi United, was a member of the victorious Eastern Suburbs President Cup team in 1955. The following year he became player #467 for the Roosters.

In 1959 Bill was a member of the Queensland team that won the interstate series of that year. This was the last Queensland team to win a series prior to State of Origin.
 
Bill then returned to NSW becoming captain coach of Temora in Group 9 and subsequently winning the Group 9 player of the year. Bill then went onto be captain coach of Yass and Mudgee.
 
Bill then returned to Sydney and his beloved Bondi United coaching kids through the years. Bill also served as President of the club.
 
Bill is survived by his partner Heather, his son Alan, a former Rooster player himself and life member of the club, his daughter Kerry and his grandchildren Callie, Casey, Kimberley, Christopher, Emily and Amity.
 
Bill’s Funeral Service will be held at Walter Carter Funerals, 302 Oxford St Bondi Junction 2pm on Tuesday 22 September
