Ray Durie – Opal Windward Manor (nursing home) Chiswick

On Thursday 21st August, 2014 John Peard, Brian Finegan and Alan Webb from Men of League’s Sydney Metro branch along with National Welfare Manager Ben Ross visited Ray at Opal Windward Manor nursing home.

Ray was a Canterbury Junior, playing the Presidents Cup for that area and then moving on to Newtown where he played lower grades in the early 1960’s as a second row forward.

On our arrival the residents were having their lunch in the dining room, John entertained them after they had finished their meals and a staff member commented to me that she had never heard so much laughter at the home for a long time.

Also in attendance were Trevor Jones who has suffered a stroke and his wife Toni.  They were former publicans who ran numerous hotels and in conversation many names mentioned were known by us all.

Ray was presented with a Men of League Polo shirt and cap and Trevor was given a shirt.

Ray has been a long time member of Men of League and Trevor completed a membership form whilst we were there.

Both men thanked us for the visit and expressed their appreciation for the work being done by the Men of League Foundation.
