Queensland Women’s Lunch Showcases Rugby League Royalty

Three of rugby league’s greatest female champions – from on and off the field – will be special guests at the Men of League Foundation’s first-ever Queensland Women’s Lunch.

To be hosted in Brisbane on Friday May 10 – just two sleeps before Mother’s Day – the historic event is sure to become a staple on rugby league’s annual calendar.

The guest of honour is the most decorated figure in women’s rugby league at present: incumbent Jillaroos skipper Ali Brigginshaw.

Born, raised and still residing in Ipswich, Brigginshaw personifies the sacrifice, determination and work ethic that’s synonymous with the greatest game of all. Her against-the-odds story of working as a labourer to achieve her dream of playing at the highest level will be a compelling highlight.

“Ali is an inspiration to not only aspiring footballers, but people of all walks of life,” said Men of League Foundation’s QLD State Manager Andrew Blucher.
“She is also a fiercely proud Queenslander who captained the mighty Brisbane Broncos to the inaugural NRLW premiership in 2018.”

Brigginshaw will be joined by another identity with strong links to the city’s most loved team – Rachel Thaiday. A popular blogger and entrepreneur, Thaiday will MC the luncheon.

“Rachel’s husband Sam is a Broncos legend, but he’s fast developing an equally good reputation for comedy,” said Mr Blucher. “If it runs in the family, then there’s sure to be plenty of laughs.”

Rounding out the guest trio is Queensland Tourism Minister, The Honorary Kate Jones.

“There’s been no bigger supporter of delivering major rugby league events to Queensland than Kate,” said Mr Blucher. “The weekend prior to our luncheon will see Suncorp Stadium host the NRL’s first-ever Magic Round – an initiative that would not have happened without Kate’s passion for the game.”

The luncheon will take place from 12 to 3pm at Capri by Fraser, in the Brisbane CBD. Tickets include a two-course lunch and three-hour wine package. Cost is $99 per person or $792 for a table of 8. Sales close on 30 April.
