Northern Sydney Men of League Honour the tireless workers from Manly Warringah Junior League Clubs

The Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby League Executive kindly invited the Northern Sydney Men of League Committee Members as their guests, to participate in their annual awards presentation night at the Manly Warringah Leagues Club on the 10 October 2014. The invitation was accepted and a Men of League Committee led by Norm Pounder and supported by fellow Committee Members Denis Bendall, Fred Jackson,Wayne Springall and Ken Vessey. They were able to arrange the presentation of specifically designed Men of League plaques, from Icons of Sport courtesy of the Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby League, to each of the nominees received from the Junior Leagues Clubs and the Manly Warringah Referees Association.

For the 2nd year in a row the plaques were awarded to the recipients for their continuous and outstanding services to their Clubs and Association and efforts to foster /develop the game of rugby league in the Manly Warringah District.

We were delighted to have recently retired ex Sea Eagles-Australian and local Harbord United player, Steve Menzies and his charming wife Suyin as our guests and Steve joined our MC Wayne Springall in presenting the plaques to the following persons before an audience of approx 150 guests.

Warwick Bulmer (special award for outstanding services), Brien Gately (Referees Association / unable to attend), Brian Friend ( Avalon) , Daryl Byron (North Curl Curl) , Adam Sargeant (Narraweena), Mick Adams ( Narrabeen) , Melissa Trbojevic (Mona Vale), David Paterson (Belrose), Bill Pretti (Forestville) , Michael Bendall (Beacon Hill) , Alan Choy (Christian Brothers).

An excellent evening was had by all in attendance and the function gave considerable exposure to the Men of League Foundation’s aims and aspirations of looking after the Rugby League community members who have fallen on hard times and the welfare/assistance role the Northern Sydney Men of League Welfare Group can activate upon receiving advice from the Junior League Clubs of persons who might need welfare assistance.

A special vote of thanks to President Mike Covey and his Executive of the Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby League for their invitation to allow us to be part of the function and complete the presentations which we feel strongly about.
