Men of League honours outstanding Manly-Warringah members

On 29 June the Men of League Northern Sydney Committee held its first Manly-Warringah junior rugby league clubs & referees association members’ awards night at the Manly Leagues Club with more than 115 people in attendance.

Although a small beginning, it is hoped this awards night will grow into an annual event for the Manly-Warringah district.

The local clubs and referees association were asked to nominate one person for their outstanding contribution to their organisations and to the game of rugby league.

Geoff Toovey, Manly Sea Eagles head coach and former Manly-Warringah junior rugby league player was on hand to present the specially made plaques to the 12 nominees, as well as special award to Ron Dean (accepted by his wife Helen, daughter Anne and son Philip) for his lifelong services to rugby league in the district.

It was a very enjoyable night, and one of the highlights was witnessing Geoff Toovey actually shaking hands with ex referee Barry Ross, when presenting him with his plaque.

Our thanks go to the management and staff of the Manly Leagues Club for their co-operation in arranging the event.
