Men of League Foundation To Host Tribute Lunch For Rugby League Legends

The Men of League Foundation’s Southern Sydney Committee invites rugby league fans to join them at their lunch ‘A Tribute to Chook, Gaz, Sticks, Chang & Billy’ on Friday 4 May 2018 at St George Leagues Club.

The lunch will be in honour of multiple legendary St George players of a bygone era, including Reg Gasnier, John Raper, Graeme Langlands and Norm Provan, as well as Billy Smith, Johnny King, Johnny Riley, who will be in attendance.

Men of League Foundation’s New South Wales Manager, Bruce Walker said that the lunch will give supporters of the game a special opportunity to hear anecdotes about St George’s unbelievable successes during the 1950’s & 1960’s.

“St George are a long-standing club with a very proud history. Their dominance from 1956 through to 1966 which saw them win 11 straight Premierships will always stand in sporting history as a very famous achievement,” Walker said.

“Chook, Gaz, Sticks, Chang & Billy were all exceptional rugby league players who left a legacy on the game. With the recent passing of ‘Chang’ it makes this opportunity to hear from his fellow colleagues that bit more special.”

“We are fortunate enough that we have teammates of these legends, John King and Johnny Riley, attending to be able to give us first hand insight as to why these fine men were such great players and servants of the game.”

Former St George & New South Wales hooker Steve Edge will be sure to keep attendees on the edge of their seats all afternoon as Master of Ceremonies, with guests spoiled by the level of rugby league knowledge in the room.

“I would encourage all attending members to bring a friend or relative along for what is sure to be a magnificent afternoon.  All funds from the lunch will go towards the Foundation’s cause of supporting the men, women and children of the rugby league community who may have fallen on hardship,” Walker concluded.
