Member of the Month – Vince Murphy

Each month, the Men of League Foundation features a member who has shown outstanding generosity, compassion and commitment to the Foundation. In July, our ‘Member of the Month’ was Ian Ninnes from our Fraser Coast Committee.

This month, we are honoured to highlight Vince Murphy from our Newcastle-Hunter Committee.

Vince was nominated by fellow member, Tiger Christiansen, for the tireless efforts he puts into the Foundation and the support he provides for the men, women and children of the rugby league community who are doing it tough.

Vince has been a member and wellbeing officer for the past five years and has been a part of the Newcastle-Hunter committee since inception. Vince first became involved in the Foundation because he liked the idea of giving back to those within the community that were doing it a bit tough.

Vince is a country boy who has a strong passion for rugby league and grew up playing the game. One of Vince’s favourite aspects of the game is its ability connects strangers together with a common love, he has made a number of friends through the game and the Men of League Foundation.

As a wellbeing officer, his visits to those who have fallen on hard times mean the world to him. He feels truly privileged to give back to the game he loves so much.

Vince’s most memorable moment with the Foundation was when the Foundation and the Newcastle-Hunter committee were able to fix a house for a family who needed it most. The family unfortunately could not afford to fix their house after unforeseen damages occurred when the Foundation stepped in to assist.

A number of donations were made and a number of volunteers galvanised together to do everything they could. The family was extremely overwhelmed and in good spirits afterwards.

Vince was honoured to be part of this journey and said it symbolises everything about why he joined the Foundation.
