Russell Fairfax Fundraising Luncheon Sells Out

In a partnership that epitomises all that makes rugby league great, the Men of League Foundation and Sydney Roosters have joined forces to deliver much needed financial support to champion footballer and game commentator, Russell Fairfax.

Ongoing health issues and expensive medical treatment last year left Russell Fairfax, struggling to make ends meet. In response, Men of League and the Sydney Roosters will hold a fundraising luncheon on Friday 27 March 2015, at Easts Leagues Club in Bondi, rallying the rugby league community to raise money to help get Russell and his family back on their feet.

Good friend to Russell and Chairman of the Men of League, Ron Coote said, “Russell Fairfax has contributed so much to our game, it is only fitting that when times get tough, we pull together to help our mate – on and off the field, it is this spirit of mateship, that makes rugby league truly great.

“From his days on the field playing for the mighty Roosters, through to his many years as a commentator for Fox Sports, Russell’s place among rugby league’s finest can’t be disputed.

“The last 12 months have seen Russell and this family face the toughest time of their lives, making his years on the paddock pale in comparison. Thankfully Russell has come out the other end and is fighting strong, however, the treatment has had a huge impact on the family financially, which is where we hope to step up to the plate and help.”

Speaking on behalf of the Sydney Roosters, Brian Canavan, Chief Executive Officer said, “Russell, Roosters player 639, has been part of our family for four decades. Here at the Roosters we are committed and passionate about enriching and enhancing the lives of those in the local community. The opportunity to work with Men of League, the charity that supports our game, to help an icon of our game, is a true honour.

“All money raised at the luncheon will go to the Fairfax family to help rebuild their lives and ensure a secure future, following what has been a trying year.”
