Jarryd Hayne has been the story all week. Reports first surfaced last Saturday that Hayne was a square peg in a round hole at Gold Coast as he preferred to tailor his training program to his own needs, despite the frustration of his teammates.

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry walked out on a press conference after he was continually questioned.

The club is trying hard not to give the reports enough air to breathe.

Hayne is raging on Twitter.

Hayne had the perfect opportunity to respond to the criticism last week when he took on the Sydney Roosters the day the first article appeared. He didn’t, slipping to the wing for a spell in the second half as the Titans staged their comeback against the Roosters.

Now he has another opportunity. With daily updates throughout the week about Hayne’s difficulty fitting in to the Gold Coast culture the player is frustrated, angry, disappointed … all of those things.

So what better opportunity than to take it out on the wooden-spoon favourites Newcastle on Saturday at McDonald Jones Stadium?

The entire rugby league community will be watching.
