John Peard visits Men of League Foundation member in hospital

On 19 December 2017, John Peard and Southern Sydney Committee Wellbeing Officer John Harris visited Men of League Foundation member Alan Fisher in Sutherland Hospital. Alan underwent major surgery on Tuesday 12 December but after discharge, suffered a relapse at home due to a reaction to medication and was admitted to hospital on Saturday 16 December.

Despite the setback, Alan was in good spirits when our volunteers paid him a visit. As usual, John Peard provided plenty of laughs which tested Alan’s surgical stitches.

Alan’s involvement in rugby league began in 1953 as a mascot for Gymea Junior League Club with which his father was involved. He played for several years with the Gymea club before a season with Northern Suburbs in the Illawarra competition.

Alan expressed his great appreciation to the Men of League Foundation for our assistance with the expenses involved in his surgery. He particularly wished to thank our Queensland Wellbeing & Education Officer Mark Bunting for his assistance and the support provided to Alan’s wife Aileen and their daughter through this difficult period. Alan thanked us for our visit and we wished him a speedy recovery.
