Reminiscing with John and Steve Lawrence

The memories and old stories were flowing when the Lawrence brothers, Steve and John, got together with their good mates and Men of League Foundation wellbeing officers Ken Vessey and Warren Thompson at Steve’s home in Mascot.

Steve has had a tough battle with his health over the past few years. The tough former centre & second-rower displayed the tenacity he had as a player to be managing well following his health issues.

Ken and Warren have known the Lawrence brothers since their playing days in the South Sydney junior rugby league team.

The Lawrence family has seven members who have played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, including Steve and John. They are also related to current Wests Tigers player Chris Lawrence.

Incredibly, Ken and John reminisced about when they had run into each other in London when they were both stationed there for work, whilst Steve and Warren worked about 3 kilometres from each other in Sydney in those days and never once ran into each other!

John also reminded Ken and Warren about the grand final side he was a member of (Redfern United) that defeated their club (Chelsea United) after Chelsea had beaten them convincingly in the semi-final.

The four old mates thoroughly enjoyed the visit and looking forward to catching up again in the near future.
