Ivan Switzer – Visit to R.P.A. Hospital

Men of League member No. 2088 Ivan Switzer was visited at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Camperdown by Welfare and Education Manager Ben Ross and Sydney Metro Welfare Officer Alan Webb on Thursday 20th August 2015.

Ivan resides at Windang in the Illawarra area.  He had his left hip replaced but unfortunately it became infected. He has been in RPA for the past 12 weeks as a result and has had numerous visits to the operating theatre to remove the infection.  He is hoping to be moved to Wollongong or Shellharbour Hospital shortly.

His wife Barbara travels by train/bus from the south coast to the hospital to visit Ivan as often as possible which is usually 4-5 times per week.

Ivan is a keen sportsman who played in the centres/wing for the Western suburbs (Wollongong). He was also a very good golfer reaching a 4 handicap but in 1992 he had a major neck operation where discs 4-6 were fused thereby ending his golf career.  He then took to Lawn Bowls a game that he still plays and enjoys.

Ivan thanked us for taking the time to visit him and informed us that he was proud to be a member of the Men of League Foundation. He was presented with a Men of League Polo shirt.
