George Smith by Barry Ross

Former Test backrower, George Smith, is in hospital in Grafton. Now 78, Smith was Australia’s lock forward against Great Britain at Lang Park in Brisbane on 30 June 1962, in the second Test of the three Test Series. He had represented Country Firsts that season from Lithgow Workers.
He finished with two games for Country firsts, as well as four games for NSW. In two seasons with the Manly Sea Eagles, George played 25 top grade games, including several as captain in 1964. George was recently in rehab in Coffs Harbour Hospital but is now back in Grafton. If any of his old team-mates or friends are passing through, drop in and see George.
