Garry Dodd – Gerringong – St. George Private 15.4.15

Gerringong resident Garry Dodd, was visited at St. George Private Hospital, Kogarah on Wednesday 15th April, 2015 by John Peard, Warren Thompson and Alan Webb – Sydney Metro Welfare Officers.

Men of League Head Office was contacted by Cliff Roberts requesting a visit to Garry, who was a former referee in Group 7.

During the visit Garry informed us that he had refereed in Group 7 for 25 years including 10 years of first grade.  After retiring as a referee Garry remained involved in the game as a member of the match review committee and also a member of the Judiciary.

Garry was a Postman and Milkman in the Gerringong area during his working life.

He informed us that he was a smoker in his younger days and although he has not smoked for over thirty years the damage has been done.  In 2011 he had part of his lung removed, in 2014 he had a quadruple heart by-pass.

Garry spent three weeks in Wollongong Hospital where he had a biopsy of his lung but unfortunately it did not re-inflate before being transferred to St. George Private where he has spent the past three weeks.

He was presented with a Men of League Cap and Polo Shirt.
