Fraser Coast Committee’s Annual Sports Dinner a Smash Hit Success

The Fraser Coast Committee’s Annual Sports Dinner has always been a popular event on the Foundation’s social calendar, but Committee President Kev Embrey believes that last Saturday’s event might just top the lot.

Over 170 guests turned out at the Beach House Hotel in Scarness to support the men, women and children of the rugby league community and hear from Queensland legends Kev, Steve and Kerrod Walters as well as former Australian Kangaroo David Shillington as MC.

Although a final count of funds raised from the event is still to be announced, Embrey has no doubt that it will be the most financially successful fundraising dinner yet.

“175 is the highest number of guests this committee has had attend and we’re confident we could have got 50 or 60 more had there not been other events in the region on at the same time.

“We’ve already set upon Saturday 8 February for next year’s Sports Dinner so people can clear their schedules well in advance,” said Kev.

In addition to the rugby league talent on show for the crowd, Queensland Wellbeing Manager Mark Bunting made a touching presentation about the Foundation’s mission to support those in need, whilst wellbeing recipients John Franks and Gary Foran, both presented with motorised scooters by the Fraser Coast Committee in 2018, expressed their thanks to the Foundation on the night.

“Mark had the crowd mesmerized during his presentation, you could have heard a pin drop when he spoke. Guests who weren’t members were enquiring eagerly after they saw the work that we do.”

Memorabilia items and raffle prizes were highly sought after on the night, all of which were donated by local businesses. It’s support like this that Kev is so grateful for.

“These local businesses in Hervey Bay support us so well every year, we couldn’t do it without them,” Kev said.

The Fraser Coast Committee will now turn their attention to the remaining events in the year – currently pencilled in are a Bowls Day in July and Golf Days in both August and November.
