Our Mid North Coast Committee recently visited former first grader, Don Evenden. Don was a front rower who played 125 first grade games between 1952 and 1958 with Norths, 10 games for Balmain from 1959-1960, two games for NSW in 1954 & 1957 and was a reserve in the 1954 Australian team for the third Test against Great Britain.
Unfortunately, Don is now suffering with dementia and is currently living in a Taree nursing home.
Our Mid North Coast Committee, with assistance from the Northern Sydney Committee, allowed Don to relive his days by acquiring some extracts of rugby league programs from the NRL Museum, showcasing Don in the Norths and Australian team.
Don was very grateful for the visit and the chance to hear and retell old stories. Congratulations to our two committees for their hard work and cooperation in helping to put a smile on Don’s face.
