Dear Men of League

Dear Men of League,

Santa was late….. or was he early?

After 39 years of back pain and surgeries, I can no longer walk long distances. So I pulled out my mother’s old wheelchair. While it was the perfect way for me to do my shopping, not so for my loved ones. It was too heavy to get in and out of the car. My husband Lance hurt his back and I felt like I couldn’t ask him to do it again. I had another bad fall a few weeks ago and badly injured my leg and thought that I wouldn’t be going anywhere for awhile… or so I thought.

Back to Santa aka Men of League….

Friday afternoon, Men of League Foundation Wellbeing Officer Natalie Turner (no relation), paid me a visit. She arrived with a shiny new light weight silver wheelchair! To say I was blown away was an understatement. To say thank you doesn’t cut it. It means so much to me and my husband Lance.

In his younger days, Lance played footy for the Mighty Souths. First as a player and them moving on to a coaching role, committee member, acting president, treasurer and finally a life member. All of this was done for the love of rugby league.

I would like to thank Townsville volunteers Mark Williams, Natalie Turner and Helen Sugars for making this gift possible. This will make a huge difference in our lives.

For ever grateful

Lance and Evelyn Turner.
