Checking in with rugby league doctor John Hollingsworth

Dr John Hollingsworth is recovering from a partial foot amputation and was visited by Newcastle Hunter Committee Wellbeing Officers David Turrell, Vince Murphy and Gary Drummond.

Dr John has a long history in various aspects of rugby league. He played for North Newcastle in 1967 – 1968 whilst a resident doctor at Royal Newcastle Hospital and then with Western Suburbs second division from 1973 – 1975.

From 1989 – 1992 John was a doctor for the Newcastle Knights and Knights Juniors and was also involved with the Newcastle Rugby League Country representative sides from 1994 through to 2014.

He was also the doctor for the Country Rugby League Representative Side from 2003 to 2014. Up until 2016, Dr John attended all semi finals and grand finals of the Newcastle Rugby League, treating injured players from all sides.

John is a life member of both Newcastle and Country Rugby League, in 2005 John was given the Merit Award from the Country Rugby League in recognition of his untiring service and support in the development and general wellbeing of the CRL.
