Brisbane Committee pay a visit to an old mate

Three members of the Men of League Brisbane Committee dropped in old friend this week for a catch-up and a bit of a yarn.

Vance Rennie, Ron Atkins and Pat McGuire visit Qld legend Kel O’Shea.

Former Brisbane Souths and Western Suburb Magpies second rower Kel O’Shea celebrated his 80th birthday on July 13, and a few old boys were on hand to wish him well at Redland Bay Nursing Home in Brisbane.

Ron Atkins, President of the Brisbane Committee as well as the Wests Old Boys, has known Kel since they were teenagers and still keeps in regular contact with him.

Ron took Brisbane Committee secretary and former Wests player Vance Rennie and ex- South Sydney and Brisbane Brothers player Pat MacGuire, also Brisbane Committee welfare officer, along for the visit.

Kel used to play in the forwards with Norm Provan in the Australian Kangaroos team between 1954 and 1958. He represented Australia 15 times, played 10 games for QLD and eight games for NSW.

As a Queensland legend it’s great to see Kel doing so well and the blokes taking some time to visit really sums up everything that the Men of League Foundation is about.
