Boost for Kiwi battler Noel

As a former Ngaruawahia half back in New Zealand, Noel Hinton has won his fair share of clashes on the field. But he is now fighting a new battle as he aims to beat cancer.

Noel began his career as a schoolboy representing the North Island in 1952, then played all his senior football for Ngaruawahia, retiring in 1965.

Noel’s brother Owen, a fullback was named as a reserve for Ngaruawahia team of the century.

Eight years ago, Noel was operated on for prostate cancer but unfortunately the disease has returned and he is now receiving chemotherapy treatment to halt the cancer’s progress.

So it was a great boost to receive a visit from the Gold Coast Men of league Foundation welfare officers Greg Sylvester and Graham Farrar.

The boys presented Noel with a Men of League shirt and cap, which he was very pleased to receive, while Noel’s wife Jill prepared a delicious morning tea of quiche, cakes and coffee, which was greatly enjoyed and appreciated by the boys.

The Men of League offer their support to Noel in his battle with this disease.
