The Men of League Foundation’s Northern Sydney Committee recently held their annual end of year Kick Off Club at the popular North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club. The event was once again successful and was well supported by the local community.

Sunny weather set the mood for a large attendance to enjoy themselves and be briefed on the excellent overall performance of the Men of League Foundation in 2018 including the highest National Wellbeing expenditure in 16 years.

Special thanks must go to the many representatives from the Manly Warringah and North Sydney Junior Rugby League Clubs, plus a large number of ex-Australian and ex-grade players including Tim Pickup, Ray Brown, Bill Hamilton, Bruce Walker, Barry Glasgow, Paul Hancock, Garry Pethybridge, Jon Clark and Neil Whittaker. This was in addition to the ex-players on the committee including Norm Pounder, Trevor Bailey, Garry Toole, Jim Phelan, Geoff Squires, Fred Jackson, Neil McDowell, Wayne Springall and Gregory Grace.

It was also particularly pleasing to have the attendance of Michael Regan – Mayor of the Northern Beaches Council, plus Manly Warringah Sea Eagles representatives Kellie Pethybridge – GM Consumer & Community Engagement, Wayne Cousins – Media Manager and three Sea Eagles players Brad Parker, Brendan Elliott and Cade Cust. Wayne conducted informative interviews with Brad, Brendan and Cade about their careers to date, goals for 2019 and how pre-season training has been under returning coach, Des Hasler.

A highlight of the event was the initial calling of a thrilling Melbourne Cup Phantom Calcutta Race by world renowned race caller Steve Winbank (Men of League Foundation Western Sydney Committee President), which was won by Phar Lap in a thrilling finish.

Finally, a big thank must go to the Executive and Staff Members of the North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club for their continued support of the Men of League Foundation.
