Alan Tongue set to Join Men of League Foundation National Board

Mr Ron Coote AM, Chairman of the Men of League Foundation, has announced that Mr Alan Tongue will join the National Board of the Men of League Foundation and will commence his position following formal confirmation at the Foundation’s AGM on 27 April 2017.

“Alan is an outstanding community contributor and as an ex-player, he understands only too well the contribution and needs of our volunteers, administrators, officials and ex-players at all levels of the game,” said Mr Coote.

“With the departure of Mark Gasnier from the board due to increased family and professional commitments, we were seeking to ensure that the mix of skills and backgrounds on the board remained diverse and relevant to the work we do. Alan’s qualifications most certainly ensure this,” added Mr Coote.

Awarded ACT Australian of the Year 2017 in recognition of his creation and delivery of a range of outstanding workshops based on mentoring through fitness, Alan is also an NRL ambassador with a wide range of roles including coaching, development and lead facilitator for the Voice Against Violence program.

“As a young boy from North West NSW I was able to live my dream of playing in the NRL for Canberra Raiders,” said Mr Tongue.

“Through this experience, I developed a passion for community work after seeing its immense impact on lives. When I look at the Men of League Foundation, I see the perfect alignment of my passions and the great work the Foundation does – serving the rugby league community through our great game.

“I am grateful for the opportunity this directorship brings and am eager to contribute in any way I can,” he concluded.
