A boost for a young battler

Welfare Officers John Peard and Alan Webb visited Nick at the Prince of Wales Hospital Ward 4East, on Thursday 24 October.

Nick is 21 years old and was diagnosed with Nasopharygneal Carcimona (cancer) in 2008. Since then he has had several trips to Sydney for treatment. He resides in Tumut, NSW.

He is a Roosters supporter and courtesy of that club he was presented with a signed Roosters jumper and other items, including a Men of League polo shirt and cap.

His other passion is horse racing and he was intending to go to the Cox Plate this year with some mates but unfortunately his illness prevented this.

Nick is supported by his mother Carolyn who is staying in Sydney whilst Nick is in hospital, his father David (a member of men of league) who is an electrician and commutes to Sydney at every opportunity.  He also has two older siblings a sister Rochelle who is to marry in three weeks and a brother Matthew.

During the visit Nick and John had lengthy discussions about both football and horse racing. Nick said he had attended Roosters training when Brad (Freddy) Fittler was the coach and that Freddy was his idol. He also said he would love to attend another session if possible.

We wish Nick all the best in his battle with this terrible illness.

Alan Webb
