Back to the Sheds

What a great start to the season with some exciting games, some tight finishes and some blowout scores. Four games were decided within the last 5 minutes.

Most notable aspect of the weekend was the new changes implemented by the NRL. The shot clock on scrums and drop outs has stopped the wasting of so much time that water carriers were looking for something to do. One of the benefits I saw from this was some good work coming from the hookers. Broncos Andrew McCullough, Sharks Michael Ennis, Souths Cameron McInnis and the Storms Cameron Smith were very creative out of dummy half.

Some clubs were prepared well, where others will have to adapt better to having less down time on breaks. Des Hasler has trimmed his big men down and it showed in their convincing win over the Eagles. The Bunker process was very slick and will cut a lot of time. With control of the footage, and a smaller team of video refs, correct decisions should happen more often as well.
