2016 Far South Coast Golf Day

Last Sunday 100 golfers descended upon Eden Gardens Country Club for the Annual Men of League Far South Coast Golf Day. Now an annual event on the Men of League Calendar the day was another great success with plenty of laughs, good (and bad) golf played and an entertaining presentation and auction.

Eden’s Col Clarke, a Men of League Committee Member, worked tirelessly in the lead up to the day to ensure the day was enjoyed by all present. 23 teams competed for the title with Neil Baker, Tyrone Thomas, Matthew Bell and Nick Smith winning for the second year running. The organisers have assured all golfers that they will be heavily handicapped next year.

Special guests on the day included former Parramatta winger, Neville Glover and former Cronulla & Eden Coach Stuart Raper. Stu is also the NSW Manager of Men of League and greatly appreciated the chance to get back to Eden to catch up with many old team mates and friends.

A highlight of the day was the auction, with Glover showing that he is pretty handy with a microphone. A range of items ensured some healthy competition amongst the bidders. Sponsor of the day Con Zurcas, from the Eden Motor Group, and Leigh Hennessey both donated a number of significant items and were also very active in the bidding for various items.

The Men of League Foundation is a charity organisation that supports the members of the Rugby League Family who may have fallen on hard times. Whether it is through help with medical equipment, scholarships, vouchers or just visitation the Foundation ensures that people who have a connection to Rugby League have an avenue of support if needed. With over 26,000 members nationally the foundation is growing rapidly.

Sunday’s event saw over $5000 raised and the Men of League thank all who assisted in any way.
