2008: Centenary of Rugby League

2008 saw the centenary of rugby league celebrated across the game with events and announcements including the Australian Team of the Century and the Centenary ANZAC Test commemorating the first ever trans-Tasman test. The Centenary Test was played at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground exactly one hundred years to the day after the first trans-Tasman test and saw the Kangaroos wear replica hooped sky blue and maroon jerseys. The Kangaroos would win the test 28-12. The game is credited with sparking the age of athleticism with Mark Gasnier scoring off a freakish try assist from a leaping Greg Inglis.
